Dilemma tool

The Dilemma Tool consists of 16 films showing different situations from working life related to, among other things, hangovers, being under the influence at work, cannabis use, gambling problems and the conversation of concern. The films are a good starting point for discussing how you want things to be at your workplace, and for developing a policy on substance use and gambling.

About the Dilemma Tool

Even though alcohol is not consumed during working hours, it is often consumed in various social situations connected to work. Akan Competence Centre has therefore developed the Dilemma Tool to help you discuss dilemmas related to working life and substance use. The Dilemma Tool shows situations where an employee smells of alcohol, borrows money, is hungover, and a conversation between a manager and an employee, to name a few. After the short films come some questions for discussion, as well as tips and advice related to the dilemmas. The films are well suited as an introduction to discussing how you want things to be at your workplace. The discussions provide a good basis for formulating a policy on substance use and gambling, and for making the policy known and understood. The situations are stories we hear about from working life, and are not intended as a blueprint for how conversations should be conducted. They are only meant as a starting point for discussion and reflection.

We recommend using the films as an introduction to the topic at staff meetings, in training, in working environment committees and other arenas where you discuss HSE-related topics. The films are suitable for both managers and employees. If you would like help facilitating workshops with the Dilemma Tool, you can contact us at Akan Competence Centre.
